A new 1950's house for Ken and Chris. We kept much the same layout for the
kitchen and pantry, with updated cabinets, appliances and black granite
countertops. They chose Eastern Hardrock Maple for its bright, yet warm look.
We found curley Maple lumber for the frames and curley maple plywood for the panels.
(A no-charge upgrade!) After the cabinet makers left, the owners added long silver pulls like the one's
seen in JOY'S KITCHEN.

Open and closed photos of the stove island cabinetry. Note the huge cutting/breadboard
left of the stove and all that drawer space. The flat open counter allowed for a set of
stools and and an eating area on the backside of these cabinets. The drawback to a flat
counter (instead of raised) is what happens in the kitchen shows from the adjacent family room.

stair step shelving behind. Below the counter in that corner, we installed rotating, pie cut lazy susan shelving.
Over the microwave you can see a pullout shelf with lotsa storage room, all easily accessed. Next to that is
tray and baking pan storage. Below the micro we installed a stack of rollout shelves. |

The left photo shows the right side of the sink cabinetry. Note the rollout tray under the sink for recycling
and garbage. In the upper cabinets, you can see the hinged, two sided spice rack (shown in more detail
in the right photo) and the pullout tray over the referigator. |
